Abstract
194,737. Invernairn, (W. Beardmore), Lord, and Galbraith, A. Sept. 16, 1921. Pneumatic springs.- A pneumatic suspension device for vehicles comprises two telescoping cylinders, the closed outer ends of which have an inlet to a supply of pressure air and an air outlet respectively with valves controlled by a rigid member operatively interconnecting them. The cylinder G slides within the cylinder A, and each has a hollow sleeve B, H at the closed end, the sleeve B receiving a coupling piece C of the air-inlet pipe D at its outer end, and at its inner end forming a seat for a valve E, while the sleeve H contains a cylinder J formed with a valve I controlling the connection between an outlet K and apertures L. The rod F of the valve E passes through a cap O on the cylinder J, and has a button N for lifting the cylinder to open the valve I. To support the load in the absence of air pressure, a spring U is placed between the end of the cylinder A and a step V on the cylinder G. A position of equilibrium is maintained irrespective of the load.
