Abstract

194,668. Krupp Akt.-Ges., F. March 7, 1922, [Convention date]. Addition to 164,703. Hopper wagons. - In a self-discharging receptacle of the type described in the parent Specification the gear comprising the toggle links E, F, Fig. 1, for locking the side flaps or doors B in the closed and open positions is adapted to be released either by manual operation of the link E or by means of a driving element in the form of a pinion H actuated by compressed air, the pinion H being rotatable on the shaft K carrying the arms C. C<1> and having two stops h<1>, h<2> which co-operate respectively with a projection f<1> on the link F and with a projection e<4> on the link E for the purpose of breaking the toggle in the closed and open positions of the flaps B. The link F is pivoted on the arm C and is provided with a slot f<3> in which a pin e<2> on the link E slides, and, in the normal or loading position, Fig. 2, the toggle is maintained by a spring G with a stop e<3> on the link E bearing against the link F. In effecting a discharge of the load by means of compressed air admitted to a cylinder M, a rack N rotates the pinion H and the stop h<1> on engaging the projection f<1> breaks the toggle, after which the weight of the load causes the further rotation of the arms C, C<1> in advance of the movement of the pinion H pn the shaft K. At the completion of the discharge movements of the pinion H and arms C, C', Fig. 4, a stop h<3> on the pinion overtakes a stop c<2> on the arm C and prevents the flaps B returning to the normal position under their own weight, while the stop h2 will have passed beyond or to the left of the projection e<4>. In the return movement of the flaps from the position of Fig. 4, the stop h<2> and projection e<4> break the toggle, after which the weight of the flaps returns the arms C, C<1> and, by virtue of the engagement of the stops h<3>, c<2>, also the pinion H and rack N to their initial positions. In the manual operation of the flaps B the toggle is broken in either position by a pull-rod connected to the link E, the pinion H with its stops h<1>, h<2>, h<3> remains stationary, and the stop, c<2> rotates with the arms C, C<1 >away from the stop h<3>. After reaching their extreme discharge position, the flaps B return under their own weight to a position, Fig. 7, determined by the length of the slot f<3> so as to establish a toggle E, F, as shown, with the spring G acting as the holding agent. Unlocking from this position to allow the flaps B to close is effected by operating the pull-rod connected to the link E.
