Abstract

219,131. Monarch Door Controller Co., Ltd., and Bowles, G. B. May 26, 1923. Operating and controlling doors by springs.- Fall-drum side doors or flaps of railway wagons with controlling springs c and connected link- and-lever mechanism of the kind described in Specification 11508/07 are provided with doorholding means adapted to secure the door or flap in both the fully open and fully closed positions by the engagement of a notched lever with a stationary pin or cross-shaft. In the arrangement shown in the Figure, a notched link k connected with the door member a is adapted to engage a cross-pin or shaft n<1> for this purpose. The link is pivotally connected at i with the lever mechanism associated with the door-closing spring, and it is guided between pins s, s' on a disc r connected with a hand-operated lever t. The notches m<1> engage with the pin n<1> and secure automatically the door in the open and closed positions. By a rotational movement of the lever t, the disc r is moved so that the pin s<1> lifts the link k and disengages its notch from the pin n<1>. Springs may be used to assist the automatic locking operation of the link k. In a modified construction, the link k is secured to an extension of the member f.
