194,647. Spencer, Moulton, & Co., Ltd., G., and Glascodine, R. T. Dec. 5, 1921. Spring shackles.-An auxiliary bearing spring used in conjunction with a laminated bearing spring of a motor vehicle comprises an annular india-rubber spring 20, Fig. 1, carried by a plate 19 on the lower end of a bolt 18 the upper end of which is directly pivoted to the front end of the laminated spring, the chassis being supported on the india-rubber spring by a bearing plate 21 integral with a chassis bracket 22 which is formed with a long boss 21<a> so as to take the driving thrust of the bolt 18 which slides therein. A similar auxiliary spring is fitted at the rear end of the laminated spring, but the plate 28, Fig. 3, bearing on the india-rubber spring is arranged to rock on the chassis bracket 29 by forming the plate with a central upwardly-projecting web 30 which engages a groove in the bracket 29. The bolt 26, which is connected by a shackle to the rear end of the laminated spring, is formed with a squared portion 26<a> working between guide surfaces 31 on the bracket 29 to prevent the rear end of the spring from twisting. One of the bearing plates of the india-rubber spring may be formed with a protective casing 24. Specifications 2230/76, 13777/05, and 8344/09 are referred to.
