Abstract

194,527. MacCallum, D. A. Feb. 27, 1922. Materials fibrous; pulp, preparation of.- Paper pulp is prepared from banana trash without the use of chemicals by passing the stems and leaves through crushing-rolls, thus reducing the moisture content to from 55 to 75 per cent, the expressed liquid being drained off and the trash pulped in a heating machine. The pulp, preferably mixed with the expressed juice and .water, is boiled under a pressure of 4-5 atmospheres for 3-6 hours, and the product is washed in a heater until resinous matter is removed.
