Abstract

8214. Bonar, J. A. M. April 1. Drawings to Specification. Materials, fibrous; pulp, preparation of. - Plants or grasses found growing in the region of the Nile Delta, and known'there as bordia, samar, and scirpus littoralis, are used with Cyperus papyrus in the manufacture of pulp for paper-making and other purposes. Various proportions of one or more of the above plants are used with the papyrus to obtain different papers. The blended plants are subjected to a beating process, and then immersed in a caustic soda solution heated to boiling point. The time of immersion, the pressure, and the strength of the alkaline solution vary according to the kind of pulp required and to the blend used.
