Cuttling. - In folding mechanism for clothraising machines, the plaiter A is balanced by parts a<x> extending upwards beyond the fulcrum point a<1> of the arms a and carrying adjustable counterbalancing-weights b. The fulcrum point may have ball or roller bearings or may be a knife-edge. The plaiter A is driven by connecting-rods c, one at each side, worked by slotted cranks d driven by a pulley j on the shaft k. A belt e and a pulley f drive the shaft g which carries the baize or other covered roller h while a pulley i on the rear shaft drives the pulley j.
