Abstract

Packing, removable casings, containers, or carriers for; boxes; followers, bushes, and the like; glands and caps; packing, inserting and extracting.-Packing 5, 20, Fig. 1, contained in a casing 1 is acted on by a spring-pressed follower 10, so that the packing is pressed out of the casing when an outer cap 2 is removed. The casing 1 is retained in position by a bush 17, packing 21 being inserted between the bush and a flange on the casing. A bush 22, restingon a packing-ring 23, forms an abutment for the spring 12 acting on the follower, the movement of which is limited by a flange engaging a shoulder on the casing. A cap 6, secured by bolts 16, which also secure the bush 17, is formed with a groove containing lubricated packing 18. When replacing the packing the container 1 is held by a clamp 7, Fig. 2, while the cap 2 is turned by a tool 9 having a projection entering holes 8 in the cap.
