194,207. Elwell, Ltd., J., and Hawley O. H. May 25, 1922. Net supports.-A support for a tennis net has a base plate provided with a portion extending beneath the net and with an oppositely-extending portion secured independently to the ground, a spigot being provided on the base plate for the reception of the post. The base plate, Fig. 5, formed of wrought or pressed metal, is provided with an upstanding spigot 7 which fits into a hole in the foot of the post 9, Fig. 1. A longitudinal rib 2 with a forked end is formed in the base. The post may be made of wood, or may be formed by bending a sheet metal blank as described in Specification 191,330. An angle plate 8 engages the lower end of the post. A screw 4 and spikes 6 are used to secure the base to the ground. In a modification, Fig. 6, for use with a round post, the base plate has a round spigot 14 and the post is prevented from rotating by a pin 15. The base plate is cranked at the part 17, and the cranked portion pressed somewhat into the ground when the net is tightened.
