Abstract

193,974. Davies, I. A. Conan-. Dec. 5, 1921. Macadamized roads. -A metal reinforcement comprising a series of steel or other metal strips or bars arranged on e d g e transversely of the road at intervals and connected by longitudinal ties, is incorporated with the tar-macadam surface of a road to prevent distortion of the surface under traffic. The metal strips c are laid on edge on the consolidated tar-macadam foundation transversely at equi-distant intervals, being held thereon temporarily by pegs e, and are connected to wires d running longitudinally of the road by spot welding or winding the wire around the strips, to prevent their displacement. The upper surface layer composed of fine aggregate coated with a bituminous binder is then consolidated in the usual way.
