Abstract

205,647. Owen, T. O. Sept. 12, 1922. Compound or composite blocks.-A paving for a road or path is formed from strips 1 of waste rubber cut from used motor tyres and embedded in a binder of asphalt, pitch or tar 2. In a modified form, Fig. 2, several thin strips of such rubber are secured together by wire stitching or nails 4, and embedded on edge in the binder 5, a smooth surface 6 of powdered wasterubber and bitumen being subsequently laid on top. In a further form, Fig. 3, the strips 7 are secured to strips of board 8 and are embedded in the binder, a smooth surface layer being added if desired.
