Abstract
193,354. Renard, C. F. July 4, 1922, [Convention date]. Spring wheels. - A wheel comprises a rim 1 fitted with a tyre and formed with side-plates 3 centrally apertured to fit an axle 4 which carries rigidly connected side-plates 5, and loose discs 7, 8. The discs 7, 8, maintained in pcsition by ball-bearings 13, are formed with apertures 9 separated by solid portions 10, each of which has a straight edge 11 with a spring-retaining pin 19 and a V-notched edge 12. Radial arms 15 connect the discs to the hub sleeves. Coiled springs 18 are fitted in the apertures 9 and keep the rollers 16 in contact with the notched-edges 12, each spring 18 being compressed between a straight-edge 11 of one disc, and a straight-edge 11 of the other disc. The arms 15 of one disc alternate with those of the other and the bolts 6 which connect the side-plates 5 engage between the arms on the two discs, thus transmitting the motion of the axle to the wheel through the springs and rollers, and forming driving devices. Should the tyre encounter an obstacle, the rollers 16 move vertically and cause a relative movement of the discs, the springs 18 absorbing the shock.
