Abstract
192,756. Harvey & Co., Ltd., M., and Cubley, H. Nov. 4, 1921. Latches, preventing operation of; keyholes, obstructing.-The handle-spindle operating a latch suitable for motor and other vehicle doors is locked against turning to operate the latch by a bolt enclosed wholly within the bearing plate of the spindle and surrounding the spindle. The square spindle 1 carries a boss 3 which is recessed at 5 to co-operate with a projection 12 on the cut-away part of the bolt 11, through which the spindle passes. At the other end of the bolt is a cam-shaped hole with a narrow passage leading into the larger hole through which the spindle 1 passes. A tumbler 15, pivoted on a screw 19, has a pin 18 co-operating with a horn 17 on the bolt. Fig. 4 shows the. spindle locked against rotation. To release, a key is inserted in the keyhole in the bearing plate 4 and turned, first bringing the tumbler-pin 18 in line with the narrow passage between the holes in the bolt, and then moving the bolt by operating on the cam-shaped edge 16 of the smaller hole to disengage the projection 12 from the recess 5. The bcss 3 may be mounted on the handle. A cover 22 is also pivoted on the pin 19 and serves as a cover for the keyhole, being held in place by the engagement of a spring-pressed ball 26 in a recess in the handle bearing.
