Locks, square-key and like; revolving barrel; wards for; keyhole escutcheons.-In a device for locking the handle of a door fastening, narticularly applicable to motor-cars, in which a rotatable sleeve fixed to the handle turns within or over a sleeve fixed to the door to operate the fastening, the sleeves are locked together by a ball or pin which is caused to protrude from a hole in the inner sleeve by travelling in a camgroove in the periphery of a key-operated revolving-barrel mounted within the inner sleeve. A sleeve A is fixed to the door by screws, and a sleeve D, rigid with the handle C, turns over it and operates the spindle E of the fastening by a pin connection e, the sleeve A having a pair of slots f to allow partial rotation of the pin. A revolving barrel G is mounted within the sleeve A and secured by the flanged bush d in which is cut the hole for the key. A ball or pin b<1> is mounted in a recess in the thickness of the sleeve A, and in the inoperative position rests partly in a notch g' in the periphery of the barrel, leaving the sleeve D free to be turned. In the locking position, the barrel G is turned. by its key to force the ball into a notch d<3> in the sleeve D by means of the cam groove b<2>, when the sleeve D cannot be turned to operate the spindle E of the fastening. The barrel G may be of the pin tumbler type. A plate b at the end of the barrel has a V-shaped hole b<3> forming a tooth or ward b<4> which requires a corresponding notch h to be cut in the key to allow rotation. Any number of such wards may be used. A spring-pin a mounted in the sleeve A engages one of a pair of notches in the flange d' of the bush d in order to keep the keyhole in alignment with the key-slot g in the barrel in both its posi. tions.
