Abstract

Pottery surfaces, ornamenting. - In decorating teapots and other pottery and ware, the plaster mould or part thereof is constructed with a design in intaglio to which coloured clay slip is applied so that this coloured slip becomes attached to the body clay during the shaping thereof. That portion of the article having the relief pattern thereon is covered with a different coloured slip to provide a coloured ground and the raised coloured clay pattern is then pared down so as to leave a slightly raised coloured clay pattern. The article is then glazed and fired. The Figure shows the invention applied to a teapot in which e represents the pattern in intaglio in the upper part b of the plaster mould, c<2> represents the body clay, and a the lower part of the mould with the body c.
