Abstract

Items of glassware or other articles are decorated by applying to the surface of the article a stencil bearing a design, engraving the design in the surface of the article by sand-blasting through the stencil and applying a colour to the engraved design before firing in a lehr or like furnace. The colour may be applied before or after removing the stencil, in the form of a brushed-on material or a ceramic transfer respectively and in the former case the stencil may be made of a material which will disintegrate and disappear in the lehr.
