Atmospheric gas burners.-A mixing-tube of gradually increasing cross-sectional area is provided with one or more plates adapted to fit one or more parts of the interior surface of the tube and hinged at the end nearest the inlet end of the tube so that the angular position of the plate or plates can be adjusted to vary the effective cross-sectional area of the tube. In one form, a mixing-tube B of rectangular crosssection is provided with two hinged plates H, I shaped to fit and cover the entire width of the upper and lower sides of the interior of the tube and adjusted by screws J, K. The hinges are arranged in recesses in the tube. The upper part of the mixing-tube may be curved to conform to the shape of the curved upper side of the furnace flue, and one hinged plate only may be employed. The air inlets C, D may be controlled by longitudinally movable apertured plates E, G.
