Abstract
15,059. Carlson, J. P. Oct. 25. Valves; valve - gear. - The ports 21 of a sleeve valve 3 rotating within the cylinder co-operate with exhaust ports 15 and intake ports 16 spaced in pairs at intervals of 120 degrees around the cylinder. The ports communicate with annular passages 17, 19 formed in the cylinder walls, and, through them, with exhaust and intake manifolds. The lower ends of the sleeves are provided with gear teeth 9 intermeshing in series and driven from the crank-shaft by worm gearing 4, 6, a shaft 7, and pinion 8. A friction ring 11 packed in lubricant fits in a groove on the underside nf the gear-wheels.
