14,570. Young, D. Sept. 11. Renewable calks.-In an improved removable clip for attaching a frost calk or stud, an enlarged and recessed bearing-surface C, Figs. 1 and 3, for the calk d is provided. The upper member E of the clip can be passed through a recess in the upper surface of the shoe, the clip being fixed in position by a screw I. The head of the screw fits a taper hole h, Fig. 1, and screws up flush with the surface of the clip. The shank of the calk may be screw-threaded throughout, or may have a plain taper part entering a taper hole in the shoe, as shown in Fig. 4. When calks are not required, they may be replaced by protectors, Figs. 5 and 6, having roughened heads and also having an internal slot g extending some distance down the shank for the purpose of withdrawing the protector by a screwdriver when the head is worn down.
