11,289. Marks, E. C. R., [Stokes & Smith Co.]. Aug. 4. Covered boxes; boxes made from special blanks; lids and covers; machines for making and covering boxes. Boxes are made by superposing a cardboard blank, shaped as shown in Fig. 1, and a covering- blank, shaped as shown in Fig. 2, and folding the blanks to the form shown in Fig. 17. The end flaps 27 are first erected, and held preferably by spring clips on a former. The side flaps of both blanks are next raised by means of rollers and wipers, after which the laps 33, 34, 46 of the covering-blank are folded and secured to the body blank. The laps 33 may be secured by blocks 48, Fig. 10, carrying folders 51 operated by a slide 53 to fold and secure the laps 34. The end flaps of the covering-blank are next raised, after which the upper edges of the covering-blank are turned in and secured by means of folding slides and the upper part of the box former. Scores 61 may be provided to enable one part of the box to form a hinged cover; or the member may be severed along the line 67, Fig. 18, to form two separate covers applicable as hinged covers for ordinary boxes.
