T fdZZ it me?) @mm p Be it own that I, LEVEBETT CAMP- Y imiin', a citizeh of the United States, and
a resident of Ljatoiii'a, the county of Kenton and State of Kentucky, have invent? certain h'ew [and useful Improvelbwing is a 1111, clear, and 'lxact deiscription, reference being had to the accompanying' drawings5itii -Ihing part of this specification.
The object o ifiyin'v nada is to provide iaf follfapsible; knockdowii cartdn nhade from siiitable'cardboard or other material with t h v r" of a single, intgralblahk, so cut and scored that it, may e rea ily and easily ielded the cover can the box for into box and coyer ahdlthe body of the carton" insertedwithin the cover to rest on one end for display purposes with an 1ntried b ack for display advertisement,
The special is'to cut tlie' blank', so
thatth ere shall be ery little waste of matei l Wh le thrned to close the bb ixi In accompanying drawings, I Figure '1 is a plan yiew of the blank from which the collapsible box and cover are formed; p p,
Figure 2 is a perspective view showing the blank partly folded;
Figures 15 a similar View with the body of the carton and the 'coveriold'e'd in' firiished fo'r n andwith the bozt ready for filling;
Figure 4 is a iengimdiim section of the box'andc'over with thej'cove'r partly ehcl0sing the bbx. A L
Fi-gurje 5 is a similar section with the Cover located under the box for display position.
; The blank bf 'eardboard o r other suitable materialji's cut aiid scored as shown in Figure 1;; in which A is'the'blaiik rfor the cover,
and B the blank for the body of the carton, and the two parts are substantially identical, except that the display flap for one end of the box is not scored, while the hentin i play-Cartons, of which the 01 and body ;of thec'arton formed tongue for the end scored. r i I It will also be noted'that the two portions A and B are integrally connected by a strip C, and that the distance between the contiguous end flaps of the two parts is of the coyer pbrtibn is suflicieiit, so thatwhe'n two coinplete blanks are out out side side the space between provides a small card sized piece of rectangular shape, which is thus not waste material and can be used for small signs.
I The portion of the blank for the body of the carton is formed with score lines 1 2,
'3 and 4 to form the bottom 5 of the box,
withside flaps 6 and 7 to form thesides; each side flap is (provided with end flaps 8', Qahd 1 03 11, adapted to overlap to form the ends and each end flap is formed with an interlocking slit a, so that these 611d pieces can be locked together to form the ends. a In the sarhe way; the portion of the cover portion isifor'med for the top of the cover with side flaps 13 and 14 for the sides to which are attached the interlocking end flaps 15, 16, 17 and 18 for the ends of the cover adapted to be interlocked with the slits b.
For the cover, the top is provided with an *eii'd lap 23, scored at 24 to 'fold'over the "end flaps 15 16 when interlocked and this eiid piece 23 has a narrow tongue 25 to fold down along the inside of the top to form a secilre en d structure for the cover.
The two blahks' A and B are connected by the strip 0, scored at 26 and 27 to arm end reinforcements 19 and 20 for the interlocked fend flaps of the box and cover, respectively. This strip is also scored with lines 28, 29, and 36' to permit of bringing the cover around under the box for display "piirposes as will be described. The other end of the box is also provided with an end reinforcement 31, to which is attached a displayflap 32. y 7 V a he pb'rtions of the blanks A an'd B Figure is a perspective View indisplay f'being separated from each other, and only connected by the long strip C, the box aiid cover are ery easily and quicl'rly set up.
"So distinct are they that one operative can besettingnp the box at the same time that 'anothet operative is at work withthe Cover.
being extended upwardly on the inside of the interlocked ends while the flap 20 remains outside the interlocked ends.
The same method is pursued for the cover. The sides 18 and 14; are folded up andthe ends 15, 16 and 17, 18 interlocked in this case with the flaps 23 and 19 on the outside. For the outer end of the cover, the flap 23 is folded over the interlocked flaps 15 and 16 and the tongue 25 is tucked in at the bottom of the cover portion.
The box is then ready for packing. When packed with the goods, the cover is turned over and pushed down over the box body, the section 21 folding inside the cover on the score line 30, the other sections of the strip C folding over the contents of the box and the display flap folding inside on top of the goods.
hen it is desired to display the goods, the cover is lifted off the box at the unattached end and carried down around the other end of thebox, turned over and the attached end of the box brought to the opposite end of the cover on the inside, so that the free end of the box will rest upon the attached end of the cover. The box will then rest with one end raised to display the contents, the display flap being folded outwardly. To close the box, the
display flap is folded down and the action.
reversed. The manipulation is so simple that the cover either in placing it under the box for support or bringing it back tocover position does not have to be fully removed from the box.
The benefits and advantages of my construction will be obvious from'the foregoing description.
As the container portion and the cover portion are, so to speak, independent of each other, the carton can be set up and ready for use in the least possible time and with the greatest ease and convenience.
The container can also be packed with the goods without any interference with the I cover. vVhen the cover is removed for distion of the blank play of the boxv contents it can be turned directly under the box by a single movement and with a reverse movement brought back to cover the box.
It will also be obvious from an ,inspecas shown in Figure 1 that there is practically no waste of material in cutting the blank.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is
1. A carton formed'from a single blank of suitable materialcut and scored to form body and cover portions of bottom, sides,
and ends,with said two portions integrally connected longitudinally by a strip of the material extending between the adjacent ends of the top and cover when the carton is closed and scored to permit folding with the cover and container both upright as the carton is set up, whereby the cover may enclose the container and may be removed therefrom and turned to hold the container in display position.
2. A carton formed from a single blank of suitable material cut and scored to form similar body and cover portions of bottom, sides, and ends, with said two portions integrally connected longitudinally by a strip of the material extending between the adjacent ends of the top and cover when the carton is closed and scored to permit folding with the cover and container both upright as the carton is set up, whereby the cover may enclose the container and may be removed therefrom and turned to hold the container in display position.
. 3. A carton formed from a single blank of suitable material cut and scored to form two distinct portions, one constituting the body of the carton and the other the cover, each portion having a bottom of approximately the same size and shape with side flaps to form the side walls, and extensions from the side flaps to form ends, with an integral connecting strip between the bot toms of each portion extending between the adjacent ends with the cover and container both upright as the carton is set up to permit the cover to enclose the body portion and to be reversed to hold the container in display position.
4. A carton formed from a single blank of suitable material cut toform two complete open boxes, each having bottom, sides and ends, and a bendable interconnecting strip integral with both boxes but forming no part of either box and extending between the adjacent ends of the two boxes whereby both boxes when separated shall open upwardly and an end flap for the container for display advertising.
5. A carton formed from a single blank of suitable material cut to form two complete open boxes, each having bottom, sides and ends, and a bendable interconnecting strip integral with both boxes but forming no part of either box, and extending between the adjacent ends of the boxes, said interconnecting strip being creased to form folds adapted to guide the one box into a position within the other with one box resting at one end on the end wall of the other and with the interconnecting strip enclosed between the two boxes and an end flap for the container for display advertising.
