Abstract
8091. Southey, A. W June 1. Direct gas pressure apparatus.-Apparatus for supplying liquid fuel to the gas-producer E of an internal-combustion engine comprises a cylinder D connected by the pipe C to the cylinder A of the engine so that, during the compression stroke, the fuel is forced out of the chamber D through the valve I and pipe K to the gas-producing chamber E, and during the suction stroke of the engine, liquid is drawn in from the reservoir N through the valve M. A float valve F cuts off the suction in the pipe C when the liquid is risen in the chamber D. The downward movement of this float is limited, during the delivery stroke, by stops G. During the compression stroke, a valve B is forced against the end of the pipe C and cuts off the pressure and the subsequent explosion pressure ; during the suction stroke, it falls and suction takes place through the by-pass T. An air chamber J is provided near the delivery.
