7198. Liquid Purification Co., and Seymour, H. W. May 13. Ball and like mills.-A rotary drying-drum, particularly intended for clay, oxides, and other plastic materials, is provided with transverselydisposed plates formed with series of perforations, between which balls, rollers, pebbles, &c. roll freely, breaking the material up and preventing its adhesion to the drum. As shown, the perforated plates b are secured to the drum by angle-brackets d, leaving an annular space for the passage of the material, which is introduced through a conduit h. Lifting-blades n raise the balls &c. g, thus giving a greater crushing effect. The plates and balls may occupy only the forepart of the drum, which is provided with rings j, resting on rollers k, and is rotated by a toothed ring m gearing with a driving-pinion.
