Blocks and the like acting on drums.-Segments 10, Fig. 1, adapted to be expanded into frictional contact with the interior of a collar 8, Fig. 3, fixed to the wheel hub (not shown) of an automobile &c., are pivoted at 11 to a supporting-disk 6 fixed to the axle. The segments are expanded by the square or angular end 20 of a lever 14, which is pivoted at 17, on a bracket projecting from the disk and moves freely in a slot in the disk, as shown in Fig. 3. Renewable facing-strips are fitted on the ends of the segments and on the lever. A dust-excluding plate 22 moving with the lever works in guides on the back of the disk. A spring 12 takes off the brake.
