This invention relates to an arrangement' for regulating the speed of gramophones. In this arrangement theadjusting lever is connected to a bearing in the top plate of the casing. In this bearing a hollow body is inserted from above and frictionally connected therewith. This hollow body is further connected with a pla-te having a nose engaging in a slot in the angle piece carrying the brake block. This angle piece is guided on the top of the gramophone casing so that, on the adjusting lever being turned, the nose on the plate attached thereto displaces the angle piece carrying the bra-ke block and moves the brake block towards or away from the brake disc of the centrifugal governor.
This adjusting lever may also be used for arresting the rotation of the turntable of the gramophone irrespectively of the driving mechanism. For this purpose the lever has a bent up end and is displaceable longitudinally radially to the driving axle of the gramophone and on being displaced towards the aXle its bent up end enga-ges with the outwardly bent end of a spiral spring gripping around the hub of the. turntable and thereby arrests the rotation of the turntable. If this lever is again moved outwardly in radial direction without changing the position of the sleeve controlling the position of the governor brake block in relation to the brake disc, the turntable on being released will again be driven at the same speed as before.

In a cut out portion ofthe top plate of the casing a bearing 6 is arranged, held on the cover plate 2 of the driving mechanism by means of screws 7 guided in arc-shaped slots in plate 2 concentrically around the axle l of the supporting plate for the record. Under the plate 2, supported against the top yplatea of casingby'a block 20, a plate 3 is held byfscrews 7 having a laterally projecting nose 22 engagingwith a slot 4f of an angle piece 5 whichcarriesin its free end thebrake block 9 so that at the rotationl of plate' 3 the angle piece is shifted in longitudinal direction and at a 'sufficiently long stroke the brake block 9 acts upon thev brake disc 8 of the centrifugal governor. In order to effect the rotation ofthe bearing 6 connected with the plate 3, a lhollow body 12 is frictionally inserted in said bearing 6, said hollow'bodyil2 having an extension 10 in which the operating lever 11 is mounted. v 1

If braking yhas to be initiated it is merely necessary to slightly oscillate the lever 11 in clockwise direction7 whereby, owingto the friction between the hollow body 12 and bearing 6 the plate 3 is rotated, the nose of which moves the angle ypiece 5, axially guidedl in longitudinal slots 21, togetherwith the brake block 9 towards the bra-ke disc 8, whereby retardin'g of the rotation of the supporting plate of the krecord is started which-may be increased to stopping the latter. A special advantage of the mechanism is :that it is not limited to a certain thickness -of th'ewooden plates to the casingnor to a certain radius of the bottom plates of the driving mechanism as the hollow body 12 and the extension 10 can be inserted more or less deeply into the bearing 6. The regulat-` ing lever serves at the same time for locking and releasing the record plate aXle thereby stopping and starting the driving' mechanism without altering the setting of the centrifugal speed governor. The stopping and regulating ofthe driving mechanism is therefore obtained by one and the same lever.
The stopping of the motor is elfected by the lever 11 which is adjustably connected to and guided on the extension 10 by means of a screw 13 so that it can carryout, besides the circular movement, a radial movement towards and away from the centre of the axle. On the hub of the record support T a spring f is arranged, one end f of which projects outwardly and is adapted toV be temporarily engaged by the inner upwardly bent end 11a of the lever 11. By oscillating the lever 11 the speed of the centrifugal governor may be varied at will, through the block 9 being f `brou0fht to bear on the disc 8 of the governor.

A speed governor for gramophones, comprising in combination with the centrifugal governor for the driving mechanism and with the vertical Vaxle ofthe record plate, an adjustable angular lever, a brake block in the free end of said angular lever, an operating lever adapted to oscillate and to be shifted with regard to said axle, a bearing adjustably connected to said angular brake lever, a

3. A speed governor for gramophones, comprising in combination with the centrifugal governor for the driving mechanism and with the vertical axle of the record plate, an adjustable angular lever, arbrake block in the free end of said angular lever, an operating lever adapted to oscillate and to be shifted with regardto said axle, a bearing adjustably connected to said angular brake lever, a cylindrical body tightly fitting into said bearing, means for adjustably connecting said cylindrical body to said operating lever, and a locking element on the hub of said record plate adapted to be stopped by said regulating lever being shifted radially ininward direction or released by said regulating Y lever being shifted radially in outward direction.
