Abstract

3689. Carpenter, J. L. March 8. Pigments.-A calcium sulphate zinc sulphide pigment is produced by treating a solution of calcium chloride with sodium sulphide and zinc sulphate simultaneously. The calcium chloride may be first saturated with calcium sulphate by adding a small quantity of a soluble sulphate or sulphuric acid. Sodium sulphide is preferably added until the calcium chloride is slightly alkaline, and then sodium sulphide and zinc sulphate are added simultaneously in such quantities as to leave the solution slightly alkaline throughout the precipitation. If more calcium sulphate is desired, some is precipitated before the zinc sulphate is added; while if more zinc sulphide is desired, additional zinc sulphate and sulphide solution are used after the precipitation of the calcium sulphate and zinc sulphide.
