2554. Evans, T. A. Feb. 17. Bevelling, traversing-cutter type for cutting rectilinearly.-Refers to apparatus for cutting bevel edges on cardboard, photograph mounts. &c. The card is clamped on a table a by a gripper-plate c, and the knife t, arranged at an angle to the plate is secured to a block q, movable by a handle r along a guide-rod p arranged in the direction in which the cut is to be made. The knife bears upon the edge of a plate c of hard metal on the top of the table, and is slightly inclined to it in plan, so that during the cutting stroke, it tends to press against the plate. The guide-rod is set lower at one end than the other, whereby the knife gives a sliding cut. The gripper-plate is normally held above the table by springs f on rods d: it is pulled down by an eccentric device on the shaft h, which passes through the rods.
