Abstract

2179. Dickinson, H., and Dickinson, M. A. Feb. 10. Projectile fuses.- Consists in making a sensitive percussion fuse with two airpressure surfaces A, B of different effective area geared together, for example by racks A<1>, B<1> and loose pinions a, so that the surface A of smaller area, to which a firing-pin C is attached, is normally held at safe by the air pressure on the larger surface B ; but, on impact, the air pressure on the larger surface is relieved and the smaller surface is pressed back and fires the fuse. A safety device such as a detachable collar is normally interposect between the surfaces A, B. The Provisional Specification also describes the use of a single surface, in which case the air pressure on the front side of the surface is opposed by an increased air pressure on the rear side.
