Patented July 6, 1897.
O. WILHELMI. ROCKET.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OTTO VILHELMI, OF DUSSELDORF, GERMANY.
ROCKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 585,805, dated July 6, 1897'. Application filed $eptember 21, 1896. Serial No. 606,458. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Orro WILHELMI, a subject of the German Emperor, residing at Dusseldorf, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rockets, with description as follows.
This invention relates to a rocket provided with a charge of circulars or other advertisin g matter, which is released When the rocket is exploded and which in descending is thus distributed over a large area.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of a stick-rocket provided with my improvement. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the rocket after having been ignited; and Fig. 3 is a cross-section on line A B, Fig. 1.
The letter a represents the case of a stick rocket, around which is coiled a roll of circulars r in such a manner that it cannot be reached by the flame escaping from below. These circulars are held in place by means of a fuse b, that projects out of the head or pot of the rocket. The fuse may be bodily coiled around the roll of circulars or it may be attached to a confining-string c, which is coiled directly around such roll, as shown.
hen the rocket is exploded or after it has been partly consumed, the fuse Z) will become ignited to release the circulars, which thus scattered over a large area.
In order to weight or counterbalance the stick d at its lower end and thus cause the rocket to ascend properly, a second roll 1' of circulars may be coiled around the stick below the case a. This roll is attached to the rocket by means of the same string 0 that holds the roll 4', and thus both rolls are nearly simultaneously released.
\Vhat I claim is- 1. A rocket provided with a case, a roll of circulars coiled around the same, and afuse or fuse-string coiled directly around the roll of circulars and adapted to release the same upon ignition, substantially as specified.
2. A rocket provided with a case, a roll of circulars coiled around the same, a second roll coiled around the stick, and a fuse or fusestring coiled directly around the rolls and adapted to release the same upon ignition, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
