Abstract
1253. Watson, E. R., and Sen, K. B. Jan. 26. Flavone dyes.-Mordant dyes are obtained by treating ethylated flavone or flavonol dyes with magnesium ethyl bromide, and de-ethylating the products either completely by means of hydrochloric acid or partially by means of sulphuric acid. According to examples: a mixture of tetra- and penta-ethyl ethers of quercetin is treated with magnesium ethyl bromide in ether solution, and the product is boiled with dilute sulphuric acid, giving a dye which yields on wool greenish-blue with chrome mordants, navy-blue on alum mordants, and violet on tin mordants; the tetraethyl ether of luteolin is treated with magnesium ethyl bromide in ether solution, and the product heated with hydrochloric acid solution, giving a dye which yields on wool purple shades with alum or chrome mordants, and crimson with tin mordants.
