[Cognate Application, 3497/15.] Sights.-Consists in attaching a hyposcope to the backsight of a machine gun or other fire-arm in such a way that it can move up and down with the slide of the sight. The hyposcope may be so arranged that, when the sight-leaf is folded down, the hyposcope can be turned through 90 degrees and used to get a general view in the direction of fire. In the construction shown in Figs. 3 to 8, the hyposcope mounting comprises a slide 16 adapted to slide on the upright 14 of an ordinary tangent sight, and to be pushed up when the sightslide 15 is elevated, an arm 18 fixed to the slide 16 and carrying at its end a transverse spindle 19, and a socket 25 mounted on the spindle 19 and carrying the casing 23 of the reflecting-prism. When the hyposcope is being used for sighting, as shown in Figs. 3, 5, and 6, the hyposcope is at the inner end of the spindle 19. When the upright 14 is folded down, as shown in Fig. 4, the hyposcope is pulled out to the end of the spindle 19 and is turned through 90 degrees, as shown in Figs. 7 and 8. In a modification, the hyposcope is mounted directly on the slide of the sight.
