Abstract

Sights; sighting-accessories.-Consists of a sighting and range-finding device comprising a tube tapering towards the front, the front aperture forming the sighting and range - finding point. The tube is of any symmetrical cross-section and is used with or without the ordinary foresight. In the construction shown in Figs. 3, 6, and 7, the device comprises the tube A secured to the barrel and to the ordinary foresight F by a clip C. The front of the tube is formed with notches A<3>, Figs. 6 and 7, to enable the centre of the front aperture to be readily determined. For night shooting, part of the interior of the tube may be coated with luminous paint G, Fig. 9, which may be applied on a separate bushing. For range-finding, the eye is held at a measured distance from the device, at a position indicated by a mark on the stock or by an aperture backsight, and the distance of the target is inferred by its apparent size in the aperture at the front of the tube. In the modification shown in Fig. 14, the tube A<10> extends to the backsight and is connected to the sighting-slide 1<2> so as to move up and down with it.
