Securing pinions &c. on shafts.-A pinion or the like c is secured on its shaft b, which may be a shaft universally mounted for the purpose of bringing the pinion into engagement with any one of a series of other gears, by a bolt f with a head h countersunk into the pinion and passing through the shaft, so that it may be secured by a nut m and locking- pin p at the outer end. Segmental keys k engage slots in the pinion and in the conical end of the shaft.
