Davits.-A sluing davit post b carries a semicircular internally-toothed rack m, a pinion gearing therewith being operated through worm and bevel gearing e, h and a hand-wheel j, as shown. The rack is so positioned that it does not project beyond the side of the ship when the boats are lowered. In modifications, the worm shaft is operated by a chain drive or directly by means of a hand-wheel.
