Abstract

19,640. Morgan, C. W. Sept. 10. Fixed-abutment type; working - fluid supply; packing vanes. - The drum 9 of an internalcombustion rotary engine has outwardly sliding vanes 15, which may be spring-pressed, for drawing in and compressing the charge in the chamber 6, and hinged vanes 14 for receiving the force of the explosions in the chamber 5. The rotor has pockets 13 connecting. during suction, with a gas-supply port 11 in the projection 10 of the end wall 3. The charge is fired by a plug 18 and exhausts at 4. At this point, the pockets 13 connect with the space 10<1> in the projection 10, so that scavenging-air passes through. The outwardly sliding vanes 15 are kept retracted within the rotor while passing the explosion chamber 5. The vanes 14 have packing-strips 14', and the vanes 15 have spring-pressed packing-strips on the sides. The casing walls 1, 2 are formed integral, and the former has a water jacket.
