Abstract
124,284. Tacchi, P. G. March 21, 1918. Movable-abutment type; cooling parts; packing drums, vanes, abutments, and the like; working-fluid supply.-Fuel is compressed between the vanes of the two rotors of an internal-combustion rotary engine, and is ignited at or near the point of maximum compression, and expansion takes place as the teeth recede. In both forms of engine shown, the fuel is compressed between the teeth of the two rotors into the space E<2>, in which it is ignited either electrically or by a flash-passage G from the last-fired charge. In a modification, liquid fuel may be injected into the compression space and ignited by the heat of compression. Burnt gases escape through the ports d, d<4>, and scavenging-air is forced through the rotor chambers through ports d<1>, d<5>, d<6>. A water jacket d<3> is arranged round the casing. The vanes are divided and fitted with overlapping packing-plates C which are pressed radially and axially by springs.
