Abstract
19,368. Stewart, J. K. Sept. 2, 1913, [Convention date]. Speed-indicator transmission mechanism for motor-cycles comprises a link 9 mounted on the nut 8 of the cycle axle 7, which is carried by the usual spring forks. Secured in the split end of the link is a bearing 10 carrying a countershaft 12 having at one end a driven pinion 13 and at the other end spiral gearing driving a shaft 16 mounted in a housing 15 pivoted to the bearing 10. The shaft 16 is contained in curved tube 19 connecting the bearing 15 and the speed-indicator casing. The various parts are proportioned so that arcs 24, 25 struck from the centres 3, 12 coincide as nearly as possible, any movement of the countershaft being allowed for by t h e flexibility of the tube. Adjustment on the handle-bar is facilitated by the provision of a ball-and-socket joint 30.
