Abstract

Control mechanism.- Relates to two speed gears more especially applicable to motorcycles, of the kind wherein bevel differential gearing is provided in the hub of the driving-wheel. For effecting the axial movement of a clutch member h, a cross-piece q<1> within a slot d<1> in the axle bears at its ends against a sleeve p carrying a screwed stud p<1> in engagement with the clutch member, the piece q<1> being moved in one direction by a central thrust rod q pressed inwardly by a lever r, and in the opposite direction by a spring s. The lever r and the cam-shaft arm j<5> are operated from a pedal-lever l, Fig. 5A, provided with subsidiary pedal-levers w, v. The lever l, with two arms l<1>, l<2> connected respectively to the arm j<5> and to the lever r, is loosely mounted upon the shaft l<5> the ends of which may carry foot-rests. The lever v is adapted to engage one or the other of two notches upon the boss of the main lever l to hold the parts in position corresponding to the direct drive or free engine, while further depression of the main lever after disengaging the lever v, brings a notch w<1> into engagement with the lever w to retain the parts in low-speed position.
