Abstract
8062. Tacchi, P. G., and Kirschbaum, H. April 4. Variable-speed toothed gearing.-Gearing for motorvehicles is enclosed in a casing a formed in one piece, the parts being assembled in a particular manner. A shaft d' has an enlarged forked head d for transmitting power, and a toothed collar e for making rigid connexion with a set of gears such as h<7>, h<6>, h<2>. A bearing-cone b<2> is passed over the collar e, and bearing-balls g are introduced. The shaft d' is passed into the casing a and threaded through the gears h<7> &c., which are passed into the casing a through a side aperture. The cone b<2> is then screwed into a boss b<1> formed integrally with the casing a. The inner end of the shaft d' is then supported in a bearing-cup b<3> screwed into a like boss b. The cone b<2> is locked in position by a screwed sleeve h. The boss of the gear h<7> is toothed to engage the collar e, and other gears may be connected to the gear h<7> by toothed bosses i. The invention is described in connexion with a three-speed gear in which a driving-shaft h<Î> is arranged parallel to the shaft d<1> and carrying a pair of gears h<3>, k<4> sliding on a square part thereof. The gears h<3>, h<4> are brought into mesh with the gears h<6>, h<7>, respectively, for reduced speeds, the highest speed being effected by causing the teeth of the gear h<3> to engage clutch teeth upon a loose gear h<1>, which is always in mesh with the gear h<2>.
