Abstract
19,332. Turner, H. Gough-. Sept. 2. [Cognate Application, 24,682/14.] Recoil, modifying; barrels.-Relates to guns in which recoil is eliminated by discharging projectiles simultaneously in opposite directions, the projectiles discharged rearwards being adapted to break up into harmless pieces upon leaving the barrel, and consists in using two or more compensating - barrels B<1>, B<2>, Fig. 1, for each effective barrel A, and in arranging the barrels side by side to leave the breeches clear for loading. The charges X, Y<1>, Y<2> are fired electrically as shown by the circuit C. In one modification, three compensating-barrels, and in a second modification six compensating- barrels B<1>, B<2>, B<3>, &c., Fig. 8, are used together with two additional barrels Z, K, one of which points in the same direction as the effective barrel and one in the reverse direction to facilitate fine adjustment when firing against or with the wind &c.
