Springs, arrangement of; guiding vertical play. - Relates to pneumatic suspension for vehicles of the type in which a plunger, bearing upon a diaphragm closing a pneumatic chamber, is supported upon a rod jointed to the plunger and to the axle. According to the invention, the plunger is centred by the air pressure acting on the sides of the plunger, a fixed guide being thereby dispensed with. Fig. 2 shows one form in which the conical plunger 4, freely mounted within a casing 1, bears upon a diaphragm 3 which confines air within a chamber 2. The plunger rod o is ball-jointed to the plunger and to the vehicle axle 6 and the casing 1 is fixed to the vehicle frame. In the case of extreme movement of the plunger, a cushion 9 between the plunger and the casing 1 comes into play. Fig. 4 shows a modification in which the plunger rod bears upon a lever 16 pivoted at one end to an arm 15 on the casing 10 and connected bv links 17 to the axle 12 at the other end. In this case, lateral movements of the axles do not affect the pneumatic cushion.
