Abstract

232,648. Kynnersley, T. R. S. Nov. 27, 1923. Pneumatic springs; buffers.-In spring suspensions for road and railway vehicles, a lever connected to the body and to the axle is adapted to pivot about either part and to compress a pneumatic cushion capable of lateral extension in such a manner that as pressure exerted on the lever, due to relative movement, increases, the contact area between the lever and pneumatic cushion increases. In Fig. 1, a pneumatic cushion 6 is interposed between the chassis 9 and a lever 4, which is pivoted to the chassis and connected by a link 3 with the end of a laminar spring 1. In the form shown in Fig. 6, the pneumatic cushions 6 are arranged at the end of a laminar spring 1, and in some instances the free end of the lever 4 may be guided and spring controlled. The pneumatic cushions of all the axles or wheels may be connected to a central air supply, and they may comprise flexible outer coverings and separate inner containers, and may be cylindrical in shape with hemispherical ends. They may be attached to the chassis by an undercut portion 19, Fig. 8, and a removable plate 20.
