Abstract

1375339 Air spring suspensions J A GREGOIRE 22 Aug 1973 [6 Sept 1972] 39717/73 Heading B7D [Also in Division F2] A pneumatic spring assembly arranged to act between a vehicle chassis 5 and a steerable wheel carrier 8 which are connected by transverse suspension links 1, 2 comprises a pneumatic chamber 9 closed by a resilient diaphragm 9b on which a piston 10 is arranged to act, the chamber 9 being fixed to a chassis part 5a and the piston 10 being constrained by a parallelogram linkage to move in such a way that its axis xx<SP>1</SP> remains parallel to the axis yy<SP>1</SP> of the chamber 9. The piston 10 is pivotally connected by a joint 17 to a support element la rigid with the lower suspension link 1 so that the link 1 constitutes one link member of a parallelogram linkage, the second link member of which is formed by a rod 14 connected by joints 16, 15 to the chassis 5 and to an arm 10c on the piston 10 respectively. The bell member 9 is secured to the chassis part 5a by a fitting 12 through which pressurized gas can be supplied to the spring.
