Circular-saw machines.-In portable circular-saw machines for cutting metal rails &c. of the kind in which the saw spindle b is mounted eccentrically with respect to the driving-shaft e, the spindle b and shaft e are mounted in cylindrical member g which is revolubly mounted in a casing h on a support v. The spindle b is rotated through toothed gearing c, d from the shaft e, which carries a hand or power driven pulley f. The work is secured to the support v by means of a screw y and the member g is turned to feed the saw through the work by a worm and worm-wheel i. The worm i is rotated either by means of a hand-wheel m or by a pawl o and ratchet-wheel n operated by a projection on the pulley f. The member g is prevented from vibrating by a brake band secured to the casing h by stretchers t, u. A grinding, milling, or like wheel may be substituted for the saw, the gear ratio being suitably varied.
