15,272. Schubert & Salzer Maschinenfabrik Akt. - Ges. May 16, [Convention date]. Knitting stockings. Relates to a method of knitting fully fashioned stockings on straightbar machines without removal of stitches from the needles at any stage of the manufacture. After the leg has been completed to the line A-A, the needles are divided into groups, the central group continuing to knit to form the area of fabric II, while the outer groups knit the widened areas I, III down the line. B-B. The outer groups are then subdivided, to knit the areas I<a>, I<b>, III<a>, III<b> by combined narrowing and widening operations. The areas I<a>, III<a> merge into the area II at the line C. while narrowing is continued on the areas I<b>, III<b> down to the line D. The foot portion is completed in the known manner. In a modified method, the areas I, III are subdivided into three, the central groups of needles continuing to knit unchanged, while the outer groups widen and narrow.
