Abstract

Platen - roller couplings for coupling the platen-roller a to the line-space wheel, of the kind in which a sliding clutch member cooperates with a thumb-wheel secured to the platen. The clutch member g is secured to a longitudinally - movable extension b<1> of the platen-shaft b and is controlled by a rocking lever r mounted on pivots o in the thumb-wheel d and provided with eccentric pins p engaging a rocking lever s which is formed with a nose t engaging the extension b<1>. A spring h holds the clutch member in engagement, and by rocking the lever r through a right-angle, the clutch member is set or released, the lever arrangement causing the clutch member to be locked when in the released position. The thumb-wheel is formed with a sleeve d<1> which is secured to the platen-roller and surrounds the platen-shaft and the extension, these being formed with engaging flats. The clutch member may, as shown, consist of a pyramidal member supporting balls i which are mounted in a cage k and engage the thumb-wheel or, preferably, a sleeve m.
