Abstract

282,908. Pateman, A. Oct. 2, 1926. Platen-roller couplings.-A coupling for effecting extremely fine adjustment of the platen comprises a cylindrical or conical ring of minutely fine teeth on the platen and one or more correspondingly toothed dogs mounted on the ratchetwheel or other driver and movable radially to the ring of teeth for engagement or release; or the ring of teeth and the dogs may be mounted on the ratchet-wheel and the platen respectively. In the coupling shown in Fig. 1, the linespacing wheel 2, loose on the platen spindle 12, is secured to a cup 1 formed internally with a cylindrical or conical ring of minutely fine teeth, i.e. seventy-six to the inch, co-operating with similar teeth on dogs 4 pivoted on the head 5 of the platen. The dogs are held in engagement with the teeth by means of a disc 9 which engages inclines on the dogs and is connected to a disc 15 abutting on a spring 10. On pushing inwards a spindle 13 connected to the disc 15, the disc 9 is moved inwards and the dogs are simultaneously released by means of a spring ring 8 mounted in notches in the dogs. The disc 9 may have guide notches for the dogs. Specification 105,200 is referred to.
