Naval mountings.-Relates to gun mountings of the casemate or upper-deck type, and comprises an arrangement wherein the elevating and training " number " or " numbers " are accommodated near the gun trunnions between the shield and downward extensions of the carriage cheeks, the space beneath the gun between the downward extensions serving to receive rack - and - pinion or other elevating- mechanism. As shown in Fig. 1, the cradles C of a pair of twin guns are trunnioned in side cheeks B and a central plate B<1>. The side cheeks B are extended downwards and together with the central plate B' are integral with or secured to a base-plate D mounted on ball or roller bearings on a fixed ring D<1>, to which is attached a circular retaining-clip or a series of clips D<2>. The rack-and-pinion or other elewating-gear C<2>, C<2> is arranged between the carriage cheeks and immediately beneath the guns. The elevating and training numbers occupy seats c, c<1> between the shield A and the outer faces of the cheeks B. In a modification, the plate D is formed with a central bearing- aperture and is mounted on a central hollow pivot projecting upwardly from the base-plate D.
