GUN-MOUNTING.
Manama, c, 1915.
Application filed July 7, 1915. Serial No. 38,630.
To'aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it lmown that we, Sir ARTHUR TREVOR DAWSON, knight, and GEORGE THOMAS BUCK- HAM,'b0th subjects of the King of Great .5
way, Westminster, in the county of London,
Britain, residing at Vickers House, Broad- England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in or Relating to Gun- Mountings, of which the following is a specification.
Thls inventlon relates to gun mountings j of the casemate, pedestal or upper deck type in which the sighting apparatus and the sight setter together with the elevating num- .ber are disposed within the shield.
According to this invention we so construct and arrange the mounting that the sight setter can be accommodated on a seat arranged above the seat for the elevating number; this arrangement results in an economy of space and a consequent reduction in the diameter of'the shield as compared with a mounting in which the sight setter is dis- I posed within the shield on the same level as the elevating number. 7 In order that the said invention may be j clearly understood and readily carried into 'eifect, we will describe the same more fully with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which ,Figures 1 and 2 are respectively a side elevation and a plan showing 1n adlagrammatic manner a pedestal gun mounting constructed in accordance with our invention.
A is'the pedestal, B the carriage and G the shield. D represents the seat for the elevating number and E the seat for the sight setter, both these seats being mounted n the carriage so that they move with the gun in training.
In the example shown the sight. setter is I arranged on the seat E in a position facing toward the, rear'and a sultable foot rest E gun layer whose head is contiguous to the sight setters seat. A foot rest D is pro- Y vided for the elevating number.
What we claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is 1. In a shielded gun mounting, the combination with the carriage cheeks, of a seat for the sight setting number arranged contiguous to one of the gun trunnions and between one of the cheeks and the shield.
2. In a shielded gun mounting, the combination with the seat for the elevating number, of a seat for the sight-setting number arranged contiguous to one of the gun trunnions and between one of the cheeks and the shield, the said seat for the sight-setting number being arranged at a higher level than the elevating numbers seat.
'3. In a shielded gun mounting, the combination with the seat for the elevating number, of a seat for the sight-setting number arranged contiguous to one of the gun trunnions and between one of the cheeks and the shield, the said seat for the sight-setting number being arranged at a higher level than the elevating numbers seat, and sighting apparatus arranged wholly within the shield. I
4. In a shielded gun mounting, the combination with the carriage, of a seat for the elevating number attached to the carriage, a seat for the sight-setting number arranged contiguous to one of the gun trunnions and between one of the cheeks and the shield, and means for attaching the seat for the sightsetting number to the carriage so that this seat is situated at a higher level than the elevating numbers seat, the sight-setting numbers seat being so arranged that he faces toward the rear.
. 5. In a shielded gun mounting, the com bination with the carriage, of a seat for the elevating number attached to the carriage, a seat for the sight-setting number arranged contiguous to one of the gun trunnions and between one of the cheeks and the shield, means for attaching the .seat for the sightsetting number to the carriage so that this seat is situated at a higher level than the elevating numbers seat, the sight-setting numbers seat being so arranged that he faces toward the rear, and a foot rest for the sightsetting number.
6. In a shielded gun mounting, the combination with the carriage, of a seat for the elevating number attached to the carriage; a seat for the sightsetting number arranged contiguous to one of the gun trunnions and.
1 between one of the cheeks and the shield,
means for attaching theseat fo rathe sight setting nunfloer to the carria eis'o that this seat is 'situated at a higher level than the elevating numbers seat, the sight-settingnuny V .v
bers seat being so arranged that he faces 10 toward the rear, and a foot rest for the sightsetting number, this foot rest being at a,
