7012. Schneider, E. March 19. Spring supports and mounts.-Relates to gun mountings in which roller or hall bearings are employed upon which the carriage is trained, and consists in the provision of a shock-absorbing device displaceable with the gun carriage and arranged to be in line with the direction of fire for all angles of training. As applied to a pedestal mount, the device comprises a spring F, Fig. 3, mounted upon a pin d which projects through a guide in the part a' of the carriage A and is integral with the outer ring D of the bearing. A similar device is fitted to the lower pivot. During firing, the clearance at the left of the upper pivot between the parts A<1>, B<1> disappears, and a corresponding clearance occurs between a<1>, D<1>; also the clearance between the parts a<2>, D of the lower part disappears, and a corresponding clearance occurs between D<1> and the part A<2>, the springs F absorbing the shock thus produced. A similar device is also described as fitted to a carriage mounted upon a rotatable platform.
